Bolsonaro detained after being declared a risk of fleeing

The former Brazilian leader has been detained after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The former head of state was found guilty of orchestrating a military coup in last fall and given more than over two decades in incarceration, but he was staying under house arrest pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after recent developments emerged.

This included seeking to disable his tracking device and a summons to a demonstration that could facilitate a potential flight.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Risks

In a document approving the arrest, Justice Moraes said intelligence from the centre monitoring the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's plan to remove the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his escape.

His offspring, Flávio Bolsonaro, who holds office as a congressional representative, called for a gathering of his backers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday evening.

Bolsonaro was found guilty of heading a scheme aimed at retaining his authority after he lost the national vote to his ideological adversary, President Lula.

Top judicial officials said that he had knowledge of a scheme which included plans to assassinate the current president and his vice-presidential running mate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to arrest and execute the presiding judge - the High Court judge who has been presiding over his judicial proceedings.

The plot was prevented because it didn't receive the backing of the army and air force commanders. The current president was took office without issue on the first day of 2023.

But a week later, on 8 January, thousands of Bolsonaro supporters invaded and destroyed government buildings in the capital, the capital city.

The security forces intervened and around fifteen hundred individuals were taken into custody.

The justices found that the protesters had been provoked by the former president whose plan, they said, was for the Brazilian military to take action, bring back stability and bring him back to power.
